Mu is seeking a MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR.

Mu Performing Arts, a growing, dynamic Asian American arts organization based out of St. Paul, has an opening for a part time Marketing and Communications Director. We are looking for someone who can grow and manage our efforts, create a new strategy that fully integrates new possibilities in a changing communications world, and take the organization to the next level.

The outcomes of this position should increase our local and national profile and audience participation and engagement for the purposes of increasing our family of supporters both in ticket sales and in financial contributors for the organization.

The position will remain open until filled. Interviews will begin the week of November 20, anticipated start date is January 1, 2017

Job Title: Marketing & Communications Director

Hours: Part-time/20-25 flexible hours per week

Reports to: Managing Director

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee all branding and marketing aspects of the organization including advertising, verbiage, and graphic design.
  • Act as public relations agent for the organization.
  • Oversee and update the website as well as all social media.
  • Coordinate education material for mainstage productions.
  • Work collaboratively with development staff to manage communication calendar.
  • Assist in developing and managing both project-specific and overall marketing budgets

Advertising and Media Relations

Secure, plan and execute all advertising for the season.

Secure ad swaps with other theater companies.

Cultivate media relationships and pitch feature stories, reviews, etc to both pertinent local and national markets.

Create, write and send out press releases for all pertinent events for Mu.

Evaluate effectiveness of advertising and adjust plans as necessary.

 

Design Oversight

Oversee creation of all visual materials for website, ads, post cards, show programs, etc.

Coordinate photo shoots with artistic leadership.

Oversee website design.

Communicate with collaborators to ensure Mu is appropriately represented.

*It is not necessary to be a designer; however, it is important to have a strong design sense and be able to manage projects involving freelance designers and artists. We expect a high level of artistry, understanding of layout design, consistency in brand, and ability to fulfill printer requirements.

 

Audience Relations

Box Office – Ensure that venue box office is working in our best interest and in best interest to our customers.

Ensure that rental box office has tickets up for sale on their site and has correct pricing.

Manage outside ticketing options.

Ensure lobby is set up for branding and best customer experience.

 

Social Media

Upkeep of current social media platforms:  Constant Contact, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Ongoing training and engagement to keep on the cutting edge of social media possibilities.

Project manage all content, including recruiting assistance with writing content, editing, calendaring, and posting.

 

Desired Qualifications

1-2 years working in a marketing, communications, or social media capacity.

Strong written communications skills; ability to speak with “Mu’s voice” in written communications.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. The ability to work effectively with a small, collaborative team is a must.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to complete tasks thoroughly and efficiently.

Available to work a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend hours.

Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress.

 

Compensation

Hourly, DOE, $18-$24 per hour

Extremely flexible schedule; outcome-based office, ability for some work from home as needed.
