WHAT IS A STAGE READING?

A stage reading is a form of theatre without sets or full costumes. The actors, who read from scripts, may be seated, stand in fixed positions, or incorporate minimal stage movement. The purpose is to gauge the effectiveness of the dialogue, pacing and flow, and other dramatic elements that the playwright or director may wish to adjust. Audience feedback contributes to the process.

Artistic Director Randy Reyes will direct the staged readings, which will feature your favorite Mu actors. Complimentary snacks and drinks will be served at each reading based on the content of the specific plays.

The Hmong sexual revolution is happening. And it’s resulting in nightclubs, barhopping, and divorces. Set against the backdrop of a nightclub, four people explore the fun, the fear, and the fantasy of divorce as they drink, flirt, fight, and try to make sense of lives in transition.

PURPLE CLOUD

Weaving together the stories of Lee, a Shanghai-born immigrant to America during World War II, his first generation Asian American son, and his mixed-race granddaughter, the Huang family is accompanied by a quartet of Chinese Stones. Brought to America in pockets and soles of shoes, they transform slowly as the Huang family acculturates over generations.
