“Journey of the Drum came to me as a modern way to look at how taiko might have been used in mythic old Japan.  Playing taiko was a way to communicate with the gods, to influence nature, and drive away evil spirits and enemies. And as a play for youth, I hope Journey of the Drum inspires young people to know that there are great adventures ahead of them and taking their own journeys, with courage and good will, can teach them important lessons about themselves and the world around them. ”
